Chesapeake Cats and Dogs Rescues Cat with Rubberband Around Neck

faith1faith2On October 26, 2016, Chesapeake Cats & Dogs received a phone call from Caroline County Humane Society about a young cat that had been found and was seriously injured. She was initially taken to Dr. Arion. He found a rubber band so tightly wound around her neck that it had cut into her skin deeply. The speculation is that it had been there a while. She is mal-nourished and also had been shot in the eye with a bb gun. The vet cut off the rubber band, cleaned the wound and gave eye medicines needed. Chesapeake Cats & Dogs has placed the cat, now named Faith, in foster care to heal. She will be available for adoption once she is fully healed. Though abused and abandoned, Faith is now safe and on the road to recovery.

Please consider making a donation to support Faith’s recovery. We appreciate your support!

Announcing Our Pets of the Month:

Senior special needs male

Puppy is a senior diabetic sweetheart who is purrfectly delightful! He loves being around people and looks forward to being in a home again, where he can shower his new owners with purrs and cuddles! He also loves to talk and will let you know how much he loves you! Puppy came to CCAD from a local shelter; though diagnosed with diabetes several years ago, his owners could not afford to treat him. He is now receiving insulin and eagerly searching for a home of his own!

MICKEY: Senior male Beagle/Boston mix

Mickey is a nine year old Beagle/Boston mix who was rescued from a hoarding situation. He has been fully vetted–including a dental–and is a healthy little love bug. At 16 pounds, he could use some good food, a comfortable bed, and lots of attention. He would be happiest as the center of attention, but he gets along with other dogs. Cats are an unknown, but he does need to go to a home without children.

Tree of Life Pet Sanctuary Update:

Please click here to help!

Nine months ago, an enthusiastic group of volunteers took the plunge and purchased this c.1900 farmhouse on over 5 acres of rolling land with the dream of turning it into the area’s ONLY pet sanctuary. The first phase has been to renovate the old house into the Chesapeake Cats and Dogs offices and a “free roam” living environment for the cattery. The new center will have additional living spaces for our “special needs” felines and kittens as well. We care for the animals with special needs that other area shelters do not have the time and resources to manage.

Since acquiring the property, we have gutted the interior, installed new electric, plumbing and HVAC, insulation to keep our guests cozy, vinyl windows, vinyl siding, exterior doors, a handicapped accessible bathroom, all new drywall surfaces, and a REALLY expensive well. We have scrounged and sweated and begged to get to where we are and are SO close to finishing, we can almost see the finish line!

Now we need your help. We are fundraising here to complete the interior trim, painting, cabinetry, vinyl flooring. and a handicap-accessible ramp. Please click here to help!
